| On Thursday night as part of our regular monthly training night, members of CFD joined together with members of the Mattituck Fire Department for a water rescue drill.
After a briefing, units participated in a series stations that focused on basic skills related to victim retrieval and recovery, both from shore and from boats.
The drill took place in the Peconic Bay in Cutchogue Harbor.
Responders were tasked with locating the patient, and then extricate him or her from the water onto the boats.
The teams practiced the evolutions several times with each taking turns practicing the skills.
Some of the skills that were covered included rescue swimming, back boarding, throw bags and throwable devices, and boat maneuvering.
The drill lasted approximately 2 hours.
Drills such as these allow responders to become familiar with the equipment and capabilities of all of our mutual aid partners.
The members of CFD would like to thank the Mattituck Fire Department for joining is for this month's drill and look forward to future trainings.
Members of the CFD Water Rescue team continue to train and be prepared for emergencies that may occur at any time of day of night.
