On Sunday evening At 1900 hrs. the Cutchogue Fire Department was called to assist the Mattituck Fire Department at the scene of a working House Fire.
911callers reported a House on fire at 490 Tallwood Lane in Mattituck. STPD communications dispatched the Mattituck FD to the scene.
The first Police and Fire Department units arrived and confirmed the working fire, finding fire in a two story home that was burning in the chimney area of the home and then extended to the exterior and interior of the second floor of the house.
The home was occupied at the time and the homeowners were able to exit the home along with several family cats.
The Cutchogue Fire Department was initially called to respond and Stand by at the Mattituck Firehouse to provide coverage for their district. As the incident progressed CFD's engine 8-5-4 was called to the scene to provide additional manpower.
Once on scene CFD firefighters manned a hoseline and would assist the Mattituck Fire Firefighters with the extensive overhaul and checking the home for any hidden pockets of fire.
The fire's location was located in an area where the nearest hydrant was located a long distance away. A long hose lay was established to the closet hydrant to supply water to the scene
Quick actions by MFD firefighters prevented the fire from extending throughout the home.
One firefighter was transported to the hospital with a minor medical issue.
Crews were on scene for approximately 2 hours.
The Mattituck Fire Department was also assisted by the Jamesport Fire Department's RIT team; and the Southold Fire Department stood by at Mattituck Fire Department headquarters.
The incident was under the command of Mattituck FD Chief Bobby Haas 8-6-30
