Area Firefighters responded to a fast moving fire that destroyed a Greenport home on Saturday afternoon November 16th.

On Saturday at about 1:00 p.m. Cutchogue Firefighters were called to assist the Greenport Fire Department as they responded to a reported structure fire on Angler Lane in Greenport. Greenport FD units arrived to find a one story home, well involved with fire. The GFD Chief immediately called for assistance from his neighboring Departments requesting additional manpower and equipment.

The Cutchogue Fire Department responded with Heavy Rescue 8-5-5 with their Rapid Intervention Team, a group of specially trained firefighters who are specifically designated for the rescue of firefighters should an emergency occur at the fire scene.

Once on scene Cutchogue Firefighters stood at the ready, and worked along side GFD and other neighboring fire departments helping battle the blaze in the home.

Firefighters were on scene for over 2 hours battling the blaze before returning home.

This was the first of 2 Fires in less than a week for North Fork Departments.

On Tuesday morning CFD was among 7 departments that assisted the Mattituck Fire Department at the scene of a tragic house fire.

The officers and members of CFD would like to extend our thoughts an prayers to everyone involved in all of these incidents.

Units: Heavy Rescue 8-5-5
