On Saturday August 31st, the Riverhead Raceway held a special night at the racetrack to honor First Responders.
Riverhead Raceway is the last remaining oval racetrack on Long Island and routinely draws crowds of race fans every Saturday night.
Each year the raceway welcomes our local Firefighters, Law Enforcement, EMS and members of the U.S. Military to the track to enjoy a night of racing.
The night started with opening ceremonies that included the Eastern Long Island Police Pipes and Drums and a helicopter flyover from the Suffolk County Police Aviation unit. A parade of Fire and police vehicles entered the track for a lap of honor as part of the opening ceremonies.
CFD's Fire police unit 8-5-15 participated in the festivities on the track.
Shortly after, the schedule of racing began, with several races that included, NASCAR modified, Trucks, figure 8 and enduros's. The highlight of the night was a special FD / PD / EMS enduro (gut and go) race. Local Fire Departments were encouraged to enter cars in this special race.
A group of 15 CFD members and their families headed to that track on this night to cheer on the racers.
A great night was had by all.
Thank you to Riverhead Raceway for another great night,. |
