Several members of the Southold and Cutchogue fire departments, along with firefighters from other area departments, took advantage of the recent cold weather to participate in the second installment of an ice & Cold water rescue class hosted by the Southold Fire Department.
The class, taught by instructors from the Suffolk County Fire Academy, consisted of two parts. The first was a three-hour classroom session held in a nice, warm setting this past Thursday at SFD. The second class was a different story. On Sunday firefighters headed to the the waters at Goose Creek Beach in Southold to practice the different skills and rescue techniques taught in the classroom.
Although there was no ice, Firefighters participated in several different rescue scenarios over the course of three hours.
Thank you to the Suffolk County Fire Academy and Southold Fire Department for hosting the class.
