December 12, 2023

On Sunday, December 10th, the Cutchogue Fire Department hosted its Eleventh Annual "Stuff The Sleigh 5k Race".

Now in its tenth year, the race raised money for the Cutchogue Fire Department Scholarship fund and other charities supported by CFD. A portion of the proceeds will support donations to the American Parkinsons Diesase Assosciation and the Firefighters Cancer Support Network.

Nearly 300 participants turned out for this year's race which was started under sunny skies and temperatures in the 50's.

The morning's festivities began with a Children's fun run as a group of energetic children ran a shortened race to the firehouse where they were met by Santa Claus at the finish line. Santa applauded all the children and presented special awards to each participant.

At 10:00 am the group massed in front of the firehouse for the start of the 5k race, eagerly awaiting the start. Once Santa gave the word the race began with the runners following a scenic 5k course through New Suffolk. Part way through the race the sunny skies gave way to heavy rain showers. The race would end at the firehouse where a reception including awards, clam chowder, and refreshments were served.

The race also served as a Toy drive, as all participants were asked to bring a new toy to "Stuff the Sleigh" for needy families during the Christmas Holiday. The sleigh was filled with several hundred gifts by day's end.

A list of Times and the winners is listed below:
