April 24, 2023

On Saturday April 22nd, CFD opened its doors to the Community as it hosted an open house and Recruitment day as part of the Statewide Recruit NY campaign sponsored by the Firefighter's Association of the State of New York (FASNY).

This initiative's goal is to highlight the need for new volunteers in Fire and EMS agencies across the state, and encourage people to become more involved with your local Fire Department.

Beginning at 10:00 am the community was treated to a series of activities and demonstrations on the grounds of CFD.

These activities gave the attendees a chance to meet the responders in our community and highlighted what it takes to be a firefighter or Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) and tour the apparatus that was on display.

Some of the displays included Firefighing, EMS / Rescue Squad, Water Rescue, Fire Police, Junior Firefighters, and Fire Safety

At 12:00 noon the large crowd of attendees were treated to a special appearance from a Suffolk County Police Medi-vac Helicopter that landed on the firehouse grounds. Members of the SCPD aviation unit gave a presentation and provided tours of the aircraft while it was on site

Following the helicopters departure, demonstrations were preformed by CFD firefighters and Rescue Squad personnel.

Firefighters also utilized the Departments roof simulator for a ventilation demonstration and demonstrated the Air Bag system and tools carried on our Heavy Rescue Truck.

As there were many families in attendance, and children and and adults alike had the opportunity to tour all of the apparatus and boats, and had a chance to operate a handline alongside our firefighters.

Hot Dog and refreshments were also served as part of the festivities.

The officers and members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to thank the community for attending this special event, and look forward to making plans to have it again next year.

The CFD is laways looking for new members to join our family.

If anyone has interest in joining CFD and Becoming and Firefighter, or EMT, please feel stop by the firehouse at anytime or free to contact us (631)734-6907 or email Cutchoguechiefs@yahoo.com.
