On Tuesday night, April 4th, CFD traveled to the Fire Academy in Yaphank for training.
This drill was the first evolution of our 2023 Fire academy Schedule. The Cutchogue Fire Department like many other fire departments in Suffolk County, routinely travel to the Fire academy several times over the course of the year in order to participate in different training evolutions.
Firefighters participated in the "Thermal Imaging Camera" course.
This night began with a classroom lecture that reviewed the operations and tactics while using a thermal imaging camera (TIC) .
Thermal imaging cameras are valuable tools that are used in a variety of ways by the fire department. They are used to search for victims trapped in fires, monitor heat conditions during fire attack, search for fire extension, and to ensure the fire is out during the overhaul process. Often these cameras allow firefighters to perform a more thorough search while creating less damage.
Following the classroom session firefighters participated in a hands-on evolution in one of the academy's burn buildings in which they were able to utilize the cameras under live fire conditions.
Over 15 CFD firefighters participated in the training session.
Thank you to the staff of the SCFA for another great night of training and special thanks to the Orient FD who assisted us by filling our SCBA bottles following the drill with their new air trailer. |
