It was only the first day of May, but the weather couldn't have been any nicer for the Cutchogue Fire Dept's Annual Blood Drive. The sun was shining and temperatures reached into the 80's, as members of the community came down and rolled up their sleeves alongside members of the Cutchogue Fire Dept to give this precious "Gift of Life."

After getting through a quick pinch of a needle and a little bit of quiet time on a lounge chair as they filled their donation bags, these hemoglobin contributing heroes were then treated to a variety of tasty juices and cookies to enjoy for a job well done.

The NY Blood Center reports that just one pint of blood can save up to three lives and that 2000 pints of blood are needed daily to keep the blood supply adequate for our NY region. During the summer months, dangerous shortages occur as donations tend to go down. That's why blood drives are so important. Thanks to the generous donors who came down to make this drive a success, 75 people could possibly owe their lives to those that stopped by.

The Cutchogue Fire Dept would like to thank the community, its members and all of the staff and volunteers from the NY Blood Center who came down to help make this day a success.
