April 17, 2025

On Wednesday evening at 9:49 p.m., The Cutchogue Fire Department was activated for a possible structure fire in a home located at 1077 New Suffolk Rd. in Cutchogue.

The homeowner called 911 after arriving home to discover that he had smoke inside his home.

While responding additional information was provided by STPD communications that the caller was reporting a fire in his basement.

Upon arrival of the first fire and police units, it was evident there was a fire as smoke could be seen coming from the home.

Upon further investigation it was found that there was an active fire in the basement. The first floor of the home also appeared to be full of smoke with conditions worsening.

Firefighters from Engine 8-5-4 deployed hoselines and made entry to the home through interior basement stairs to start an interior attack.
Inside the basement, they were encountered with smoke and increased heat conditions as they searched for the seat of the fire.

The firefighters were able to locate the fire in the ceiling and quickly knocked down the bulk of the fire. This allowed additional teams of firefighters to be used to search and check for any fire extension in the basement and on the first floor.

Additional members from Ladder 8-5-3 and Rescue 8-5-5 arrived and assisted with ventilation and other fireground tasks.

A majority of the Fire damage was confined to the basement, and required extensive overhaul to check for any remaining fire in the basement ceiling and 1st floor of the home.

Firefighters were on scene for approximately 2 hours.

No injuries were reported. EMS & Ambulance personnel from the CFD Rescue Squad and Stony Brook University First Responder Unit were on scene throughout the fire.

Mutual Aid was requested from the Mattituck Fire Department who responded with an Engine and Ambulance for additional manpower.

The cause of the fire was believed to be electrical in nature and is not deemed suspicious
