With the spring season now upon us, members of the CFD Water Rescue Team have been working hard preparing for the upcoming boating season. After conducting preventative maintenance over the winter, CFD's primary Fire-Rescue Boat, 8-5-10 was launched for the season last weekend. Over the winter the boat received some equipment upgrades in preparation of the 2024 season. The boat was repowered and with new motors replacing the boats original motors from 2007. Additional upgrades were made to the steering system and electronics. A new FLIR camera was installed greatly enhancing our nighttime and low visibility operations. The boat will be stationed at a dock in New Suffolk Harbor and will remain in the water throughout the year until the winter season arrives. Having our boat docked in this location allows it to have access to a variety of areas within Peconic Bay and be able able to respond quickly to any emergency. CFD also operates a smaller16' Zodiac rigid hull inflatable boat that is trailered for use in shallow waters and LI Sound. In recent months CFD has been working with other Southold Town Fire Departments to coordinate joint trainings for the upcoming season. CFD Water Rescue Team: https://www.cutchoguefiredept.org/content/water/ Thank you to everyone who helped get the boats ready for the season. Thank you to the Board of Fire Commissioners for providing us with these important upgrades and your commitment to the CFD water rescue program. Thank you to the staff at Albertson's Marine in Southold and Blue-J Marine for all of your help with these projects. |
