Over Mother's Day, CFD Volunteers remained busy as they answered 4 calls for service throughout the day.

These calls included a House Fire, a Gas Leak, a Mutual Aid Request to Southold FD, and an EMS Alarm.

The first call of the day came at 5: 39 a.m. when CFD was requested to assist the Southold FD at the scene of a serious Motor Vehicle Accident on Route 48 in Southold. CFD responded with an ambulance and Fire Police Unit.

The afternoon brought (3) consecutive calls.

At 4:11 p.m. CFD responded to a possible Gas leak in a residence on Nassau Pont Rd. in Cutchogue. After investigation, firefighters discovered a small water leak inside the home causing the problem in question. Firefighters assisted the homeowners and made sure the home was safe.

While on the scene in Nassau Point, a second call was received at 1629 hrs for an EMS alarm on Fairway Dr.

The final call of the day was received at 1740hrs. when Southold Town Police Communications received reports of a possible house fire in the area of Oregon Rd. and Bridge Lane.

The caller who was walking in the area dialed 911 when she observed flames and smoke coming from the rear of a large home.

Fire and Police units arrived to find the home's rear porch on fire. The home was a large two-story farm house.

Using several extinguishers first arriving units were able to knock down and control the bulk of the fire until the arrival of the first due engine.

Upon arrival, engine 8-5-4 a hoseline was deployed to knock down any remaining fire and begin overhauling the exterior of the home to check for any fire extension.

Additional Firefighters entered and searched the home for any fire on the inside. After a search, It was determined that the home was unoccupied and the fire was contained to the exterior of the home.

Firefighters would remain on the scene for over an hour and cleared the home of any smoke using fans.

Due to the quick action of first arriving units the fire was contained to a small area of the home's porch.

With the assistance of Southold Town Police, the fire was determined to be accidental and no injuries were reported.

We Hope all the Mothers in our families enjoyed Mother's Day, and thank you to everyone who may have left their families to respond to the several calls we had yesterday.
