July 4th - Smoke in the Building

Each year the members Members of CFD celebrate our nations Independence Day by marching in the Annual New Suffolk July 4th Parade.

As the Department was preparing for the start of the parade, the Cutchogue Fire Department was dispatched for a reported structure fire, at the Peconic Liquor Store located in the King Kullen Shopping center.

911 calls reported smoke inside the store, that is located within a row of stores. Firefighters quickly manned the apparatus and responded directly from the parade.

First arriving Chiefs discovered a light condition within the store coming from an unknown location. Crews form the Engine 8-5-4, searched the first floor of the store while the crew from Quint 8-5-3, the departments new ladder truck, raised the arial and checked the roof of the building.

Firefighters were able to trace the source of the smoke to a malfunctioning Air Handler located on the roof.

Crews were on scene for 45 minutes and ensured that smoke was cleared from the building.

During the alarm a CFD was represented in the parade by a contigent of the CFD marching Band, Ladies Auxillary and CFD Juniors.

Units: Chiefs 8-5-30, 31, 21, Engine 8-5-4, Quint 8-5-3, Heavy Rescue 8-5-5
