Over the past week the Long Island and Northeast region of the United States has experienced record breaking cold temperatures and wind chills. Throughout the Island, fire departments have been busy responding to weather related emergencies.

SFD units under the direction of Chief Peggy Killian arrived to find a working fire in a home on the Long Island Sound Shoreline. The Cutchogue Fire Dept. was requested to respond to the scene with a Rapid Intervention Team. (R.I.T.)

CFD Heavy Rescue 8-5-5 made the response with a crew of 8

A good job by Southold Firefighters made quick work of the fire, confining damages to a small area.

Once on scene CFD Firefighters stood by for 45 minutes before being released.

The second fire occurred on Thursday Morning around 1:00 am when an house fire was reported on Kaplan Avenue in Greenport.

Greenport Firefighters battled a well involved blaze in a two story home. The fire required the assistance from several 8th Division Departments that included Southold, East Marion, Mattituck and Cutchogue.
