Over the past week, winter weather continued to affect the area with sub-freezing temperatures.

On Thursday evening Cutchogue Firefighters were called to a Commercial Property on Duck Pond Road to investigate an automatic Fire Alarm.

Responding units were advised by the dispatchers of a water flow alarm coming from the cabana building.

Upon arrival firefighters dicovered large amounts of water was coming from the doorway and other openings of the building.

Firefighters were able to gain entry to the home and quickly found that there had been a broken sprinkler head in the mechanical room of the building causing a flooding condition.

The water had been leaking after the cold weather caused the sprinker pipe to freeze and break.

Firefighters turned off the water supply and disconnected the utilities to prevent any other damages or hazards.

CFD units remained on scene for nearly an hour
