CFD Attends the North Fork Volunteer Firefighters Association Dinner

On Saturday May 4th, a contingent of members from the Cutchogue Fire Department attended the North Fork Volunteer Fireman's Association annual dinner dance.

The North Fork volunteer Fireman's Association was formed in 1932 with the purpose of fostering camaraderie and brotherhood among the member Departments as well form a group to address the concerns for our local firefighters.

Throughout the years the NFVFA has hosted annual awards dinners, bowling tournaments and annual Parade and Drills throughout the area.

Every 3 months the quarterly meetings are held at a different firehouse throughout the area, and on the first Saturday in May, they host a dinner dance and awards dinner at the Riverhead Polish Hall to honor our local Firefighters accomplishments.

Among the nights honorees were several CFD members:

2012 CFD Firefighter of the Year : Amos Meringer

50 Year Members: Ex-Chief Allan Glover & Robert Doroski

Orient Firefighter Jacob Bogden received the 2012 NFVFA Firefighter of the year award in recognition of his lifesaving actions during a house fire.

The guest of honor for the night's meeting was the former Suffolk County Legislator
Ed Romaine, who recently was elected to a new position as Brookhaven Town Supervisor.

Mr. Romaine throughout his years in office was a strong supporter of the Volunteer firefighters throughout his district and regularly advocated on their behalf in regards to current issues facing the fire service.

In recognition of his continued support, President Richard Ligon and the Board of the NFVFA bestowed upon Mr. Romaine, a Lifetime Honorary membership to the Organization.

Mr. Romaine was joined at the dinner by other dignataries that included his successor Al Krupski Jr. and Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walters.

During the Dinner the following officers were officially sworn in by newly elected County legislator Al Krupksi Jr.

President: Richie Ligon – Riverhead Fire Department
1st Vice President:– Bruno Semon – Orient Fire Department
2nd Vice President: - Greg Dickerson Mattituck Fire Department
Treasurer: Ed Boyd – Southold Fire Department
Sgt. At Arms: Gus Enger – Jamesport Fire Department
Chaplain: Bill Savage – Wading River Fire Department

The Cutchogue Fire Department is also the proud home of 3 past presidents of the NFVFA who remain active in the organization, Ex-Chief William Midgley, Ex-Chief John Lademann, and Gregory Boyd.

The Officers and members of the Cutchogue Fire Department would like to congratulate the Officers of the NFVFA on their re-election.

Member Departments of the organization include: Orient, East Marion, Greenport, Southold, Cutchogue, Mattituck, Jamesport, Riverhead, Wading River, Manorville, & Shelter Island Fire Departments.
